A Guide For Hanging Pictures Over Wallpaper
Wallpaper and art are the perfect combinations. Not only can they stand on their own separately, but they can also coordinate and create even more beautiful designs together.
The only challenge is knowing how to combine the two.
Wallpaper can be fragile. On its own, it can stand the rigors of daily wear. However, with tape and Command strips, you’re likely to damage it, and potentially your pictures as well.
How to Hang Pictures on Wallpaper
There aren’t a whole lot of good options for hanging pictures on wallpaper without damaging the paper.
However, there are ways to minimize the damage so that it’s not noticeable unless you’re looking for it.
First, avoid tape and other adhesives. A heavy object such as a picture frame will most likely tear the wallpaper.
The better option is to use a nail to hang the picture. In order to minimize the damage, make sure you have the right spot before you start hammering.
Another option is to cut an upside down v in the wallpaper with a thin knife where you want to hang the photo. Then lightly pull the v down, and insert the nail or screw into the wall. If you end up wanting to move the photo, you can stick the wallpaper back in place.
Other Damages to Avoid
A small nail hole or line strategically placed will be nearly impossible to detect if you’re not looking for it.
These markings will be a lot more noticeable than the nail hole. In order to avoid them, wrap the wires and hard edges on the back with cloth or felt.
Show Off Your Creative Side
Just because you’ve added wallpaper to a room doesn’t mean you can’t add another hanging décor to it as well.
While wallpaper reacts differently to sticky substances than normal walls, with careful planning, you can add photos in a beautiful, non-intrusive way. The wallpaper will make a great backdrop for your family photos or your favorite artist’s work.
