Create Good Content

Finally, keywords should be included at least once near the top of your webpage within the content, and then sprinkled throughout the rest of the page, including variations.
If you include photos or images on your site (which you definitely should), include “alt text” describing the content of that image. Google can’t “see” photos but it does read the alt text. This increases the chances your images will appear in Google’s image search results.

Another example: If you’re providing treatment for back pain, the search term “lower back pain relief” has 10,000 to 100,000 searches per month, but “back pain treatment” only has 1,000 to 10,000.
These are two great examples of how people search for information and products in each niche. The keywords you pick for your SEO efforts should reflect similar and industry-relevant search term distinctions.
Go After the “Long Tail”
Though going after these keywords with higher traffic can seem attractive, keep in mind it can be rather difficult to get ranked for them, especially with a newer site.
Another strategy is to target what’s referred to as “long tail” keywords. These are keywords that are generally longer and more specific which tend to have a lower amount of search volume.
The benefits if targeting long-tail keywords is two-fold:
- Long tail keywords usually have less competition so it’s easier for you to get ranked for them.
- Long tail keywords are more specific, so although they may get fewer amounts of searches; the searcher is more likely to be ready to make a purchase decision.
A good strategy with a new site is to start writing content targeting these long-tail keywords first, then as your site becomes more established and gets more rankings in Google, you can start going after those bigger keywords and get ranked for them more easily.
